What sealing does — and doesn’t do
Pavers don’t have to be sealed, but sealing helps. It locks the joint sand in place, slows weeds and ants from working through the joints, makes stains and spills easier to clean, and can bring back color that the sun has washed out. It does not make pavers stain-proof, and it isn’t permanent.
How a paver sealing job goes
- Walk-through. We look at the pavers with you: condition, joint sand, stains, drainage and any loose or sunken areas.
- Deep clean. The pavers are cleaned to remove algae, dirt and old residue. Sealer over dirt just seals the dirt in.
- Joint sand. Washing removes some sand from the joints. Joints are refilled, using polymeric sand where it suits the job — it hardens to resist washout and weeds.
- Sealer. Once the pavers are dry enough, sealer is applied.
- Final walk-through. We review the result with you and photograph before and after.
How long it lasts
There’s no single answer. Sun exposure, car traffic, pool chemicals, irrigation and the sealer used all change how fast it wears. Many homeowners refresh their sealer every few years; a shaded front walk lasts longer than a sunny pool deck. We’ll tell you what to expect for your pavers when we quote.
Caring for sealed pavers
Keep cars and foot traffic off freshly sealed pavers until the sealer has cured — ask us how long for your job. After that, rinse spills promptly and sweep regularly. When water stops beading or the color starts to fade, it’s time to plan a reseal.

Paver sealing questions
Is paver sealing necessary?
No, but it helps: it locks in joint sand, slows weeds and ants, makes stains easier to clean and can enhance color. Pavers must be cleaned before they’re sealed.
How long does paver sealing last?
It varies with sun, traffic, water and pool chemicals. Many homeowners reseal every few years. Sunny pool decks wear faster than shaded walkways.
What is polymeric sand?
Joint sand with a binder that hardens after it’s wetted. It resists washout and weeds better than plain sand, and works well under sealer.
Do you offer a warranty on sealing?
We don’t publish a standard sealing warranty on the website. Ask us about your specific job when we quote.
